Pelvic Floor Therapy
At Advanced Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, we proudly offer pelvic floor therapy with physical therapist Christina Upleger, P.T., D.P.T. This specialized type of therapy benefits women who have recently given birth or experience pelvic floor dysfunction and pain, including:
- Low-back, hip & recurrent abdominal pain
- Urinary incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pain with intercourse
- Diastasis recti
If women begin to experience these symptoms, their pelvic floor component may be involved. The pelvic floor muscles lie at the base of the pelvis and tie in with the core, low-back, and hip muscles. They are responsible for supporting your organs; controlling the output of urine, gas, or feces; assisting in birth and reproduction; and allowing you to lift and move normally with less fear of pain, leakage, or prolapse.
These muscles can be stretched and strengthened, just like many other muscles in the body. Pelvic floor physical therapy teaches you how to optimize these muscle groups to better serve your body.
Christina is trained by the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. She uses evidence-based techniques and treatments, including dry needling, to help women experience relief.
